The English Premier League is the preeminent football (soccer, for you Yanks) league in the world. As British car owners and Anglophiles, you undoubtedly know that each year the bottom three teams in the Premier League are relegated to the league below in the English football hierarchy, oddly called the Championship, and three teams from that league are promoted to the Premier League. In 2014, one of the teams promoted to the Premier league was Leicester City from the East Midlands (not Western NC). In 2015, Leicester were nearly relegated back to the Championship, escaping that fate only by managing a highly unlikely winning streak to end the season, sometimes referred to as the Great Escape. Incredibly, Leicester went on to win the Premier League at 5000-1 odds the following year, in one of the great underdog stories of all time. This fantastic feel-good story is a long-winded way of saying that I know nothing about Leicester, NC but needed to write something for the webpage. (DM)

The day will begin at the Ingles in Leicester (575 New Leicester Hwy, Asheville). From there, we will tour the beautiful back roads between Leicester and Marshall, returning to Leicester, along the French Broad River, for lunch at the Salty Goat Cafe, followed by dessert at Tani and Dewey’s home. Perhaps if we ask nicely, Tani will show us some of her amazing paintings.
