History of the BCCWNC30 Years Young on January 12, 2014

In celebration of the cars that started the sports car movement here in the US and the spirit that continues today, the British Car Club of Western North Carolina (BCCWNC) was formed in January 1994 as a not for profit organization to be run by area British car enthusiasts. BCCWNC is dedicated to maintaining and expanding interest in British cars of all makes, model and vintage. At the founding meeting, held at 7:00pm on January 12th 1994, at the Denny’s on Patton Avenue in Asheville, some 30 British car enthusiasts wholeheartedly approved of forming the BCCWNC. At a subsequent meeting, a board of officers was elected to serve for one year. Dues were set to help defray the cost of a newsletter, mailings and other necessary expenses.

Our first president was Tom Boscarino. Other Officers elected were, John LaForge, VP, Kay Crozek, Secretary, and Luke Duncan as Treasurer. The first issue of “The Gearhead Gazette” was March 1994, edited by Piet van Rossum. These hearty volunteers have subsequently served as President:

One of the founding members is still active with the Club. The membership grew to over 60 enthusiasts owning MG’s, Austin-Healeys, Triumphs, Rovers, Jaguars, Lotus and several other makes. Membership increased again with the advent of monthly drives in 2006, and currently stands at over 180 households of one or two members, owning Austin, Aston Martin, Austin-Healey, Caterham, DeLorean, Jaguar, Jensen Healey, Land Rover, Lotus, MG, McLaren, Mini, Morgan, Morris, Sunbeam, Triumph, and TVR cars. Many live beyond Western North Carolina. Thanks go to all who have been members over the years and to all who have volunteered their services as officers.
