It was a cool and foggy morning as several members braved the elements in convertibles to arrive at our meeting point by 8 am on July 4, 2007. Mark and Teresa Farver lead the group hoping to arrive at the show site early enough to get a spot in the shade. Arriving with them were Gene and Carole Carter, Denny Taylor with Zelda, John and Gail Rachow, Robert and Dreama Milks, and Jim and Charline Moon. Alas, it was not to be, and we parked in the open lot across from the main music stage. John and Gail set up their red cover and put up a British flag that really got attention. We had great entertainment all day, and wonderful weather, until the last of the shade crept away and we were left in the sun mid-afternoon.
We had a game of musical cars that day as we welcomed more British Cars from the Brevard Antique Auto Club including several Bug Eyes. Walking along the row on the street, Gene and Carole came upon a nice BRG Triumph TR3 owned by recent transplant John Jack, who moved here from Minnesota. He was delighted to learn about our club and eagerly agreed to move his car over to our area. Denny had to leave for a while, but late arrivals Keith Leonard and Robin Rice filled his slot with their TR6. Then Denny returned, having taken Zelda home and brought Eileen out and filled another vacated slot. Rob Faught showed up with his Jaguar and squeezed into the line up. We heard that Alvan Judson was on the premises with Mike Hobbs, but Alvan’s car didn’t make it to the group area. David and Joyce Adams came by to visit too.
During the day we made quite a splash with our British car display. Lots of people came by to say they once owned this or that car. Several people have British cars currently, and we ran out of cards as we handed them out to festival goers. One gentleman actually said he was considering buying a British car if there was a club to go on drives with, so we hope to see him at a meeting.
Late in the day we got a real treat for our club. Sherrill Barber of Channel 13 news was there with a cameraman, and interviewed Carole for the news. The story aired at 6 pm on July 4 and showed Carole’s name with British Car Club on the banner. What great publicity! We hope a lot of people will have seen it, and maybe go to the Internet to find out more about our club! Kind of funny isn’t it, to interview someone with a British Car at an Independence Day Festival!!
